Wilma Otis, 102, of Perry, formerly of Afton, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Spring Valley Retirement Center in Perry.
Celebration of Life Services will be 11: 00 a.m. Thursday, November 3, 2016 at the Afton United Methodist Church 111 S. Douglas in Afton. Rev. Joel Sutton & Rev. Jim Morris will officiate.
Burial will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery, east of Afton.
Visitation with family receiving friends will be from 10 to 11 a.m. service time Thursday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Afton United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be given at www.powersfh.com.
Wilma Gladys (Whitehead) Otis, daughter of Oliver Newton Whitehead and Josie (Downey) Whitehead, was born on the family farm near Lorimor, Ia. on November 1, 1913. She taught in a one-room school house .
On August 1, 1940, Wilma married Carl R. Otis in Lorimor, Ia. They lived and farmed all of their married life in the Afton area. Wilma worked in the school lunchroom at the Afton Public Schools. She spent many working hours helping with various projects at the Afton Methodist Church. She greatly enjoyed her many church friends and the neighborhood club known as the Afton Friendly Circle. Wilma also enjoyed gardening, quilting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wilma moved to Perry in the Spring of 2013.
Wilma is survived by her two sons, Roger (wife Myrna) Otis of Grimes and Terry (wife Tak) Otis of Adel; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Jason) Haines and Leslie (Grif) Sims; and three great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Haines, Averi Haines and Lily Sims.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 54 years, Carl Otis, her four sisters, Irene Winkler, Olive Stalcup, Helen Nauman and Opal in infancy, and one brother, True Whitehead.
