Viola Willett, 86, of Thayer, died Friday, May 25, 2018 at the Afton Care Center in Afton. Celebration of Life Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at the Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Pastor Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. Burial will be in the Murray Cemetery in Murray. Open visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2018 with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home 612 North Dodge in Afton. Memorials may be given to the Pleasant Valley Church. Online condolences can be made at

Viola Verna Willett, daughter of Vera N. (Huss) Loy and Clair A. Loy, was born January 17, 1932 at her home near Murray, Iowa. In 1950, she graduated from Murray High School.

On June 7, 1953 Viola was united in marriage to Calvin Willett at the United Methodist Church in Osceola, Ia. They settled on a farm near Thayer where she has been a long-time resident. She worked as a homemaker and an active mother for many years. After Calvin's death she began working for Bonnie's flowers for a short time. She moved to Creston in 2013 where she lived at Prairie View Assisted Living prior to moving to the care center in Afton. Viola found joy in gardening, cooking, crafting and taking care of her cattle. Viola also loved spending time playing bingo and card games with family and friends. Viola was an active member of the Pleasant Valley Church

Survivors include her daughter Sharon (husband Russell) Kelley of Thayer; three sons, Jack (wife Susan) Willett of Afton, Steven (wife Denice) Willett of Thayer and Dale (wife Julie) of Harrisburg, S.D.; nine grandchildren, Chad Kelley, Stacy Claiser, Tammy Willett, Amy Willett, Angie Pettit, Derick Willett, Heather Willett, Heidi Willett, Cody Willett, Branden Harding and Joe Harding and 11 great-grandchildren, Kelsie and Jake, Carly, Caden, Jacie and Lucas, Kyson, Jase and Bryce, and Haley and Brock.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents, husband Calvin in 1984 and a brother, Paul Loy.
