Obituary

Verlene Ann Jones was born February 27, 1936 in Ringgold County, Ia to Byrma Lee Ergenbright and Hazel Elva (Keller) Ergenbright. She attended Nevinville schools later from Richland High School in 1954.

On May 14, 1954 she was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Richard Jones. They first settled in Zion area on a farm where their 5 children were raised. Kathy, Keith, Kim, Kelly, and Kurt blessed this union with years of laughter, adventures, and the occasional sibling argument. Verlene and Bob enjoyed their time at home with their children taking trips on the school bus that was made into a camper to accommodate the family size.

In 1972 Verlene and family moved to Orient. Verlene and Bob owned and operated Jones Garage where Verlene helped with the books, parts and many other things. Bob and Verlene worked side by side until selling the shop around 1985. After selling the shop Verlene worked at Heat Tech until retiring in 1998. After retirement she worked part-time at the Bank of Memories in Orient until she was no longer able due to her health. She was a member of the Hill of Zion Church.
Verlene had several hobbies she enjoyed doing. She enjoyed painting ceramics over the years. She also painted wooden tulips, butterflies, and other items Bob had cut out to take to flea markets. She also enjoyed cross stitching and quilting. She was very talented with her hands and had an eye for colors. She continued to cross stitch many quilts for family and friends until her arthritis would no longer allow her to use her hands

The Elks Club and St. Malachy Catholic School were two places Verlene enjoyed playing Bingo. You were guaranteed to run into her and her girls when the doors were open on Bingo nights. She especially enjoyed when family would visit for a round of Bingo as well.
During her quiet time Verlene would also enjoy a romance novel. She enjoyed sitting on her front deck in the sun and reading on hot summer days while taking in any happenings in her neighborhood and visiting with passerbyers.

Survivors include her three children, Keith (wife Patty) Jones of Allerton, Ia., Kim Jones of Orient, Ia., and Kelly Jones (Jan Fink) of Creston, Ia., eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and three sisters, Bonnie Baker of Creston, Ia., Karolyn Fletcher (Jack Norris) of Creston, Ia., and Marlene (husband Larry) Olson of Jonesboro, Ark. Verlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, a daughter Kathy Rumbaugh, a son Kurt Jones and brother-in-law Dick Baker.
