Thomas Jude Rotert, 55, of Creston died Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Open visitation will be 2-6:30 p.m. Thursday, with family receiving friends from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday. Sharing services will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Powers Funeral Home 601 New York Ave. in Creston. Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2017 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Proceeding the Mass, there will be a Rosary at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to his immediate family. Military graveside rites given by the Theodore J. Martens Post #1797, Creston VFW. Thomas Jude Rotert was born August 17, 1961 in Detroit, Mich. to Edwin Rotert and Loretta (Moggio) Rotert. Tom moved with his family to Iowa in 1968. He grew up on the family farm near Grand River, Iowa and attended school at Mt. Ayr, graduating from Mt Ayr High School in 1979. After high School, Tom attended SWCC in the trade mechanics program. Tom served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
On May 8, 1984, Tom married Carrie Hall in Grand River, Iowa. Together, they had two daughters, Christy and Jessica. Tom and Carrie divorced.
On March 19, 2005, Tom married Leanne Wilkinson in Creston in a family ceremony. Together they had a son, Blade. They lived and worked in the Creston area. Tom and Leanne divorced in Dec. 2015.
Tom had a strong passion for his Triumph motorcycle, riding and drag racing. Tom was a truck driver, worked at Trolli as a maintenance specialist, worked as a salesman with Office Machines and worked in farm production. He was a floor care specialist and was affiliated with ABATE of Iowa, attending their rallies and events. Tom was also known for his vintage motorcycle drag racing.
Survivors include his two daughters, Christy Rotert of Creston and Jessica Rotert of Ottumwa; a son, Blade Rotert of Greenfield.; a step-daughter, Samantha Scheel of Creston; a step-son, Zackery Scheel of Greenfield; parents, Ed and Loretta Rotert of Algona, two brothers, Ed (wife Michelle) Rotert of Mt. Ayr and James (wife Lisa) Rotert of Algona.; four sisters, Gannie (husband Randy) Porter of Wahoo, Neb., Cheryl (husband Jon) Grether of Algona, Kathy (husband Russ) Van Daele of Hudson and Anne Rotert of Morris, Ill.; seven grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
