Shirley Klingensmith, 80, of Creston, died Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston. Private Graveside Celebration of Life Services were held Friday September 16, 2016 at Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Memorials are to the family. Online condolences may be given at www.powersfh.com.
Shirley Joann Klingensmith was born on January 2, 1936 in Keokuk, Ia., a daughter to Josephine A. (LaFeber) and Romeo John Bickel. Shirley graduated from Keokuk High School in 1953.
On June 6, 1959, Shirley was united in marriage to Harry Raymond Klingensmith in Keokuk, Ia. They settled on a farm near Arispe before moving to the Creston area in 1965 where she continued to work as an active mother and homemaker. In 1980 Shirley and Harry moved into Creston. Shirley loved to go to Garage Sales. Shirley volunteered for the Re Run Shop for many years. Shirley was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Holy Spirit Altar and Rosary Society and the Parent Teacher Association.
Shirley is survived by a daughter Theresa (husband Donald) Herber of Cedar Rapids, Ia; three sons, Ken (wife Kathleen) Klingensmith of Lawton, Okla., Edward (wife Jana) Klingensmith of Ankeny, Ia. and Timothy Klingensmith of Nevada, Ia.; a sister, Vickie Jeffers of Keokuk, Ia.; a sister-in-law Mary (husband Rudy) Ehm of Creston, Ia.; three grandchildren, Anthony (wife Julia), Jordan and Victoria. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry Klingensmith in 2005, three brothers, Kenneth Lee Bickel, Hillary Gene Bickel and Rodger Bickel, and three brothers-in-law, Bill (wife Marie) Klingensmith, Jim (wife Twylla) Klingensmith and Jeff Jeffers.
