Ruth Long, 71 of Creston, died Friday, August 12, 2016, at her home in Creston. Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 16th, at First Baptist Church in Creston. Pastor Dave Tebbenkamp will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in rural Afton. Open visitation will be from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday at Powers Funeral Home in Creston with family receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church or Cancer Support Ministry of Crest Baptist Church, both in Creston. Online condolences may be given at www.powersfh.com.
Ruth Ruby (Hazen) Long was born on October 2, 1944 at her home in rural Adair County, a daughter to Aretta (Powers) Hazen and Irvin H. Hazen. She graduated from Orient-Macksburg in 1963 and received her Bachelors from Buena Vista College.
On January 29, 1966, Ruth was united in marriage to Robert A. Long in Creston. Ruth worked as a Certified Public Accountant in Creston. She worked for other practices following graduation and Ruth opened her own practice, Ruth R. Long CPA-CFP in Creston in 1988 and in Afton in 2009. She enjoyed serving her clients very much and found joy in her relationships with them.
Ruth was an active member at First Baptist Church in Creston. She also was a member of the Iowa Society of CPAs and was active with the Republican Party of Iowa.
Ruth is survived by her husband Robert; three sons, Andrew (wife Anna) Long of Athens, AL, Ryan (wife Ellen) Long of Slater and Randall (wife Erin) Long of Creston; nine grandchildren, Alexis, Abagail, Alivia, Robert, Ava, Reece, Jared, Mercedez and Noriana; and two sisters, Mary (Lloyd) Jones and Martha Musmaker (Ken Hudson) both of Creston. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Rebecca Long and two brothers, Ralph and Hugh Hazen.
