Ronald L. Cain, 78, of Creston, died Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Private services will be held at a later date.

Ronald Larry Cain was born September 22, 1938 in Thurman, Iowa to George William Cain and Alma Marie (Maxwell) Cain. He graduated from Thurman High School on May 21, 1956. Ron graduated from Northwest Missouri State College on June 1, 1961 and the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming on August 19, 1966 with a degree in Masters of Education.
Ron was united in marriage to Etta Lee Gray from 1961 and divorced in 1972. Together they had two children, Chris and Brent. He taught Mathematics 4 years at Malvern High School in Malvern, Iowa from 1961-1965 and then moved to Creston, Iowa to take a Mathematics teaching position at South West Community College.
On April 3, 1998, Ron married Patricia (Ryan) Loew in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived and worked in Creston, where Ron continued to teach Mathematics at SWCC, retiring in 1998 after 32 years of teaching.
Ron was a member of the Creston Elks Lodge and the Creston Model Train Club. He pitched for the Northwest Missouri State Baseball Team.
Ron was talented with his hobby in wood carving and helped carve the life-sized bear located at McKinley Park in Creston, Iowa. He was extremely patient and kind-hearted as a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He faithly followed St. Louis Cardinals baseball and loved fishing and gardening. Ron's extraordinary creative talents were expressed in a multitude of hobbies.
Survivors include his wife Pat Cain; their nine children: Chris (wife Julie) Cain of Santa Rosa, Calif., Brent (wife Kelsey) Cain of Chandler, Ariz., Roxanne Loew of Chicago, Nick Loew of Chariton, Matt Loew of Chicago, Sandy (husband Richard) Byrne of Cary, N.C., Steve (wife Phyllis) Loew of Dade City, Fla., Kate Jorgensen of Wayne, Neb., and Angie Loew of Virginia Beach, Va.; 25 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; two brothers William (Bill) Cain of Ankeny, Iowa and Dean (wife Connie) Cain of Glenwood, Iowa.
Ron was preceded in death by his mother, father, step-father Ernest Rose, and a sister Marie Nutting of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
