Martin Shawler, 76, of Creston, died Thursday, January 26, 2017 at the Creston Specialty Care in Creston.
Services will be at 4 pm, Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 & 25 in Creston. Father Ken Halbur will officiate.
Burial at a later date will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to service Friday at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Martin Wendell Shawler was born October 25, 1940 in Conway, IA. to Thelma Lucille (Nelson) Shawler and Donald Milton Shawler. He graduated from Cromwell High School in 1959. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he served for 23 years from November 25, 1959 to 1982.
On April 10, 1961 he was united in marriage to Joyce Marie Wescott in Deadwood, S.D. After marrying, he was assigned to duty in Guam until October 1962. When returning, he was stationed at the following locations for the next 23 years: Texas, South Dakota, Philippines, Thailand, Kansas, Arkansas, Lajes Field Açores, Maryland, and retired in Iowa in 1982. He owned and operated Shawler Repair in Creston. Martin was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #5969 in Deadwood, S.D.; member of the American Legion in Creston; Southwest Iowa Amateur Radio Association and served on the Creston Planning & Zoning Board.
Survivors include his wife Joyce Shawler of Creston; two daughters, Bonita (Jerry) Trausch of Le Grand, Iowa.; Lisa Shawler (Mike Klingensmith) of Creston; one brother, Dennis (Suzanne) Shawler of Creston; two sisters, Patricia (Dennis) Iiams of Ankeny, and Janice Johnson; two grandchildren, Adam Trausch (Amanda Maguire) of Defiance, Ohio and Kara Trausch of Austin, Texas; one brother-in-law Joel Wescott of Deadwood, SD and one sister-in-law Jadene Wescott of Broomfield, Colorado; Close Family friends Pat Klingensmith of Creston; Jerry and Marcia White of Creston; many nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; his parents Donald & Thelma Shawler; parents-in-law George and Angela Wescott and brother and sister-in-law John and Judy Wescott.
