Larry Geary, 75, of Afton, died Friday, October 28, 2016, at his daughter's home in West Des Moines.
Celebration of Life Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge in Afton, Ia. Rev. Jim Morris will officiate.
Burial will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery, east of Afton. Military honors will be provided by Theodore J. Marten's VFW Post #1797 of Creston & Afton.
Open visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Powers Funeral Home in Afton.

Larry, the son of Jessie Lee and Mabel Helen (Scott) Geary of Creston, IA was born June 16, 1941 in Carbon, IA. He graduated from Creston High School in 1960.
He was united in marriage to Karen Sue (Klos) Geary on September 11, 1965 in Afton, Ia. He served his country with the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO until his honorable discharge in 1968.
He worked at various jobs throughout his life. His jobs included being a cook and baker for Bernings Café in Shenandoah, Ia and Creston, Ia. He worked for Mayflower trucking Company traveling around the Midwest. He took pride in working at Jimmy Deans as a sanitation supervisor which turned into his career until his retirement at the age of 65. Larry also enjoyed his woodworking projects and taking trips with his family.
He is survived by his son Scott (fiancé Kristen) Geary of Creston; a daughter Content Geary (husband Derek Howard) of West Des Moines; grandson, Jacob Geary of Creston; brothers, Leroy (wife Sue) Geary of Sautee, Ga., Rex (wife Janice) Geary of St. Joseph, Mo. and Roger Geary of Seattle, Washington; sister, Ruby Turner of Creston; a good family friend Judy Wilson of Afton, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Karen in 1997, brother Virgil Geary, sister Beverly Stalford and brother-in-law Cleve Turner.
