Kae M. Johnston, 76, of Creston, died Thursday, August 18, 2016, at the Greater Regional Hospice Home – HCI in Creston.
Celebration of life services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 22 at the Crest Baptist Church 1211 N. Poplar Street in Creston. Pastor Chuck Spindler will officiate.
Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, south of Creston.
Open visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, with family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Powers Funeral Home 601 New York Ave. in Creston.

Kae Marlene Johnston, daughter of Roman and Mary Bjorgo, (raised by grandparents David E. and Rosa M. Anderson) was born June 22, 1940 in Iowa City, Iowa. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1957. She went on to study at the Mason City Business College. Kae then worked as a stenographer with the State of Iowa Auditor's Office Lloyd Smith.
On August 7, 1962, Kae married Max Johnston in Des Moines, IA. They first lived in the Des Moines area. In 1964, they moved to Bedford, and then to rural Williamson, IA in 1966 where together they farmed and operated Johnston Metals. Kae was a great homemaker, a very active farmwife and a bookkeeper for their businesses. Kae also worked for the Iowa State Extension Service, out of the Greenfield office. They farmed from 1964 to 1981. Kae earned her credentials to work as a Nursing Home Administrator. Kae also earned her Associate of Arts degree from South Western Community College.
They moved to Creston in 1981, where Kae worked at the Administrator for the Crest Haven Care Centre in Creston. She also poured her life into caring for her immediate family and extended family, often moving elderly parents and aunts and uncles, into her home. Kae loved taking care of livestock, and milking cows. She loved to travel with Max in the motor home, loved to bake, to ice skate, loved Christmas, and loved her Lord.
Kae was a member of Crest Baptist Church in Creston. She also taught Sunday School Classes over the years.
Survivors include her husband, Max Johnston of Creston; three sons, Michael (Nikki) Johnston of Montrose, Colo., Kevin (Connie) Johnston of Simpsonville, S.C. and Stephen (Suzanne) Johnston of Creston; a daughter, Cynthia (Chuck) Thomas of New Market, Iowa; 9 grandchildren: Sophia DeJulio; Dane, Marissa and Emma Johnston; Hannah, Ellie and Paul Johnston; Kirstie and Korbin Thomas.
Kae was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and sister Marilyn Zimmer.
