Obituary

John McIntosh, 89, of Creston, died Monday July 31, 2017 at Creston Specialty Care. Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be Friday, August 4, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Dan Fields will officiate. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Military honors will be provided by Theodore J. Marten's Post #1797 of Creston. Open visitation will be from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday with family receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Online condolences can be given at www.powersfh.com.

John Lewis McIntosh, son of Chloe (Todd) and O.W. McIntosh, was born on December 11, 1927, in Ridgeway, Mo. He graduated from Farragut High School with the class of 1945.

John was united in marriage to Betty Lou Inlow on November 6, 1949 in the Penn Ave. Church, south of Greenfield. He entered the US Army, serving from 1953-1955. John lived most of his life in Creston. He worked as an over the road truck driver and owner of small trucking company hauling meat and vegetables. He also owned and operated McIntosh Motors for 32 years selling boats and Evinrude motors, campers and then Yamaha motorcycles and ATV's and also Christmas trees in season, retiring in 1998. John was a member of the Creston United Methodist Church and was President of American Motorcycle Association (AMA) District 22 for several years and the Director of Iowa Snowmobile Association.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou McIntosh of Creston; one daughter, Bonnie (Ralph) Nurnberg of Alma, Neb.; two sons, Dan (Angie) McIntosh of Creston and Rick (Lori) McIntosh of Creston; one sister-in-law, Kathy McIntosh of West Plaines, MO.; nieces and nephews, Tim (Melinda) McIntosh of Creston; Kathy Carter-McIntosh of Cromwell; Ron (Rossita) Jensen of Houston, Tex.; many other nieces & nephews in Iowa, Nebraska and Louisiana; 7 grandchildren, Nichole (Doug) Bierle of Creston; Shawna (Brett) Hammond of Alma, NE.; Brittnay Nurnberg (Randy Heckenlively) of Alma, NE.; Skyler McIntosh (Cheyenne Thornton) of Osceola; Kayla (Jesse) Maas of Alma, NE.; Brooke (John) Berg of Creston; Shelbi McIntosh (fiancée Mike Snyder) of Ankeny and four great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents OW & Chloe McIntosh; in-laws, Lloyd & Ruth Inlow; four brothers Willard (Doris) McIntosh, Harvey (Joanne) McIntosh, David (Alta) McIntosh & Harold Wayne McIntosh and inlaws, James (Lenore) Inlow and Helen (Hank) Tanner.
