Jim McGuire, 88, of Thayer died Thursday, April 13, 2017 at his home in Thayer.
Celebration of Life services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2017 at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Jim Morris will officiate.
Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, south of Thayer.
Family receiving friends, will be 5-8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.
Military Graveside Rites by the Theodore J. Martens Post # 1797, Creston V.F.W.

James William McGuire was born June 7, 1928 in Pleasant Township, Union Co., IA to Murel McGuire and Alice Maude (White) McGuire. He graduated from Thayer High School in 1945. He farmed for several years, before entering the United States Army. Jim was discharged in 1954 and continued serving in the Army Reserves. Jim then went on to study in the Reisch American School of Auctioneering in Mason City, graduating in 1960.
On May 16, 1964, Jim married Bonnie Thompson in Red Oak, IA. They settled on a farm south of Thayer and farmed all of his married life. Jim was also a Livestock Dealer and an Auctioneer with McGuire Auction Service.
Survivors include his wife Bonnie McGuire of Thayer; one daughter, Jo Anne (husband Mike) Duckworth of Creston; four sons, Bill (wife Diane) McGuire of Thayer, Richard (wife Patty) McGuire of Oklahoma City, Okla., David (wife Rita) McGuire of Thayer, John McGuire of Afton; a daughter-in-law, Robin Vogel of Arispe; one sister, Darlene Kinneman of Kansas City, Mo.; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ray Vogel, his parents, 3 brothers, Lester, Carl and Frank McGuire, and a brother-in-law, Bob Kinneman.
