James 'Jim' Paxton, Jr., 73 of Creston died on March 18, 2017 at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
No memorial services will be held. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Shannon City at a later date.

James Floyd Paxton, Jr. was born July 14, 1943 in Union County, Ia. to Elsie Harriet (McCracken) and James Floyd Paxton, Sr. He grew up in Shannon City area. Jim was part of the first graduating class of East Union High School in 1961. Jim served his country as a part of the United States Army from 1961 until 1964 in Thailand. After returning from the military he earned his Associate of applied Science degree from Iowa Western Community College.
Following graduation, Jim lived on a farm south of Arispe working as a machinist and mechanic for nearly thirty years while working for John Deere and International Harvester in many locations. He also worked for Vanmark and Brown Bear as a machinist. After retiring in 2002, Jim moved to Creston for six years and later to Prescott for two years and most recently moving to Crest Haven Care Centre in Creston.
Survivors include, two sisters, Neoma (husband Al) Davis of Creston and Ann Green in Broken Arrow, Okla.; brother-in-law Dennis Campbell of Mt. Ayr; two nieces, Deb (husband Randy) Hansen of Creston and Dianna Davis of Creston; four nephews, Scott (wife Jenny) Green of Broken Arrow, Okla., Mike (wife Shannon) Green of Austin, TX, Brian Campbell of Des Moines and Shaun (wife Carolyn) Campbell of Ames; pet dog Rufus; along with several great nieces and nephews.
