Garnet Culver Farris, 74, of Tarkio, Mo., formerly of Creston, died Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Tarkio Rehab and Health Care Center in Tarkio, Mo. Celebration of Life Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Powers Funeral Home 612 N. Dodge Ave. in Afton, Iowa. Pastor Mary O'Riley will officiate. Burial will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery, east of Afton. Visitation with family receiving friends will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Service time Friday at the Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Garnet Rose (Adamson) Farris, daughter of Elzie Adamson and Ethel (Spicer) Adamson, was born on Jan. 14, 1942 in Creston, Iowa. She was educated in Creston schools. She later received training to be a Certified Medication Aid.
In 1957, Garnet married Raymond Culver in Kansas City, Kan. They lived and worked in Kansas City, Kansas area. Raymond died in 1963. Garnet then moved back to Creston. She worked as a nurse aid and homemaker. In 1976, she moved to Ottawa, Kansas and then to Ulysses, Kansas in 1981.
In the early 1980, Garnet married Opie Farris in Ulysses, Kansas. Living and working in Ulysses, they moved to Table Rock, Nebraska in the early 1990's. Garnet then retired and moved to Burlington Junction, Missouri. The last 10 years she lived with George Porter who called her his Rose.
Survivors include her three sons, Charles (wife Nora) Culver of Effingham, Kan., David (significant other Karrie) Culver in Pawnee City, Neb. and Bill (wife Donna) Culver of Garden City, Kan.; two daughters, Pepper (husband Philip) Bowen of Glenwood Springs, Colo. and Rhonda Emery of Shenandoah; a brother-in-law, Bob Beardsley of Missouri; 10 Grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren.
Garnet was preceded in death by her parents, her three sisters, Opal Tune, Ruby Beardsley and Pearl Sharp and two brothers, Marvin & Paul Adamson.
