Emma Jean (Kauffman) Packnett was born in Geneseo, Ill. to Melvin and Mabel (Kropf) Kauffman. She peacefully passed away on Sunday July 9, 2017 after a lengthy illness, at the age of 75 years 1 month and 14 days. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday July 13, 2017 at the Crest View Amish Mennonite Church north east of Creston. Edward Headings, Leonard Headings, Gerald Hostetler and Clifford Kauffman will officiate. Burial will be at the Crest View Amish Mennonite Cemetery north east of Creston. Open visitation with family to receive friends will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crest View Amish Mennonite School north east of Creston. In January 2017 she was diagnosed with advanced congestive heart failure, chronic bronchitis and kidney disease. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was a faithful member of the Crest View Amish Mennonite Church at the time of her death.

She was born in Illinois and at the age of 6 moved to Oregon where she grew up. After marriage she moved to Illinois, where Charlie was born, and then to Wisconsin where David, Cheril and Sam were born. In December 1967 they moved to Oregon, and in 1973 she moved back to Wisconsin, where she had an in-home day care for 37 years, caring for many, many children. A final move to Creston, Ia. was made in 2012, where she lived at the time of her death.

On September 26, 1960 she was united in marriage to Charlie Franklin Packnett. To this union was born three sons and a daughter, Charles of Sac City, Ia., David and (wife Sandra) of Afton, Ia., Cheril of Creston and Samuel (wife Mirriel) of Hughesville, Mo. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three sisters, Loretta, wife of the late Alvin Kempf, Miriam (husband Larry Headings) and Eunice (husband Clifford Hostetler, one brother-in-law Ken Headings, one sister-in-law Beulah Kauffman. Preceding her in death are her parents, three brothers and two sisters, Curtis, Elva, Raymond, Glendon and Mary Lou.

Mom/Grandma was concerned for the spiritual welfare of her family and church family and was a faithful example to us all. Her sleepless nights were spent in prayer for her loved ones. She will be greatly missed by her family. The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and support, and for the many deeds of kindness shown.
