Damian Baker, 78, of Creston, died Wednesday March 29, 2017 at Creston Specialty Care. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Father Ken Halbur will officiate. Open visitation with family to receive friends will be Tuesday April 4, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. time of service at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Private family burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Memorials can be given to the Care Initiative Specialty Care or Care Initiative Hospice.
Damian Francis Baker, son of Urban Benedict Baker and Dorothy Mae (Jonhnson) was born June 29, 1938 in Union County, Ia. Damian graduated from Creston High School in 1956 and later attended Southwestern Community College. He worked for the highway commission
On August 19, 1961 Damian was united in marriage to Cheryl Jean (Smither). They settled in Creston, where he worked at Wellman Dynamics for 38 years in quality control prior to his retirement in 2002. In his spare time he enjoyed horses, going to the Iowa State Fair and taking his grandchildren to Cody, Wyo. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Damian was a previous member of St. Malachy Catholic Church Holy, Spirit Catholic Church, Elks Lodge #605, serving as exalted Ruler.
Damian is survived by his wife Cheryl Baker of Creston; three sons, Doug Baker of Creston, Ia., Rod (wife Carol) Baker of Lake St. Louis, Mo. and Clint (wife Shelley) baker of Iowa City, Ia.; sister Carmalita Horton of Niota, Ill.; a brother-in-law Gary (wife Judy) Smither of Rapid City, S.D.; two grandchildren, Kyle Baker and Madison Baker and many nieces and nephews. Damian was preceded in death by his parents, a son in infancy Curt Baker in 1970 and a brother-in-law Ed Horton.
