Agnes M Eklund, 92, of Creston, died Monday, January 2, 2017 at the Greater Regional Hospice House-HCI in Creston.
Celebration of Life Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Creston. A lunch will be served, followed by burial in the Oakland Cemetery at Shannon City.
Open visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 5, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Agnes Marie (Swanson) Eklund, daughter of Mary Callista (Maloney) Swanson and Maynard F. Swanson, was born Dec 8, 1924 in Ringgold County, Iowa. In 1942, she graduated from Shannon City High School, and then went to Des Moines to work at the ammunition plant.
Agnes married Raymond C. Eklund in Indianola, Iowa. They shared a life farming together in the Shannon City community. She volunteered as a 4-H leader several years. She was an active member of the Shannon City and Arispe Methodist churches and enjoyed quilting with the South Valley Quilters many years. Raymond died Feb 26, 1984.
Agnes moved to Creston in 2001 volunteering with Meals on Wheels, being a reading companion for school children & helping area nursing home residents play Bingo. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and also a member of Federated Garden Club in Creston. She enjoyed working in her yard and taking daily walks in the neighborhood. She especially enjoyed her family and many friends.
Survivors include her son, Bob (Sharon) Eklund of Afton; two daughters, Sharon (Craig) Wasteney of Hannibal, Mo. and Kathy (Joe) Haines of Des Moines; seven grandchildren, Teresa (Brian) Cose of Dubuque, Eric (Jeanna) Eklund of Afton, Carl (Lindsay) Eklund of Shannon City, Robin Wasteney of Des Moines, Carmen (Rick) Goodwin of Des Moines, Christy (Scott) McGriff of Des Moines, and Carrie (Scott) Hamilton of Greencastle, Ind.; 16 great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Brittney, Tori, Jerod(Cassie), Jacy(Cazlynn), Logan (Sydney), Lindsey(Josh), Cale, Ivy, Coy, Macy, Collin, Lauren, Brady, Maggie and Ella;
5 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Peppmeier of Creston and Anna Weis of Afton; a brother, Ralph (Mary) Swanson of Kimberly City, Mo.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband Raymond; two brothers, Howard (Bunny) Swanson and Carl Swanson; and brothers-in-laws, Earl Peppmeier and Donald Weis.
