Tribute & Message From The Family

Vincent Schieffer, 87, of Creston, died Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the Greater Regional Hospice Home- HCI in Creston.

Celebration of Life Graveside Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at the Calvary Cemetery, west of Creston. Father Ken Halbur will officiate.

Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery. Military Graveside Rites by the Theodore J. Martens Post #1797, Creston V.F.W.

Vincent Lawrence Schieffer, Jr., son of Wilma (Hamilton) Schieffer and Vincent L. Schieffer, was born March 25, 1930 in Carroll, Iowa. He was educated in Carroll Schools. In March of 1946, he entered in the United States Marine Corp., serving until his discharged in January of 1948.

On June 16, 1948, Vince married Delores M. Schachtner at the St. Peter and Paul Church in Carroll, Ia. They lived in Carroll where Vince worked as a lineman with utilities. Moving to Creston in 1958, Vince worked with Iowa Southern Utilities for the next 19 years, and a few years with Afton utilities. In 1979, they moved to Panora, where Vince worked as Superintendent of Utilities. Returning to the Creston area, they retired and moved near Kent in 1992. Vince then went on to farm. Delores died in January of 2017.

Vince was a member at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston.

Survivors include his five sons, Tom (wife Debbie) Schieffer of Waukee, Steve (wife Diane) Schieffer of Creston, Scott (wife Colleen) Schieffer of La Crosse, Wis., Terry (wife Julie) of Creston and Mark (wife Alice) Schieffer of Maryville, Mo.; two daughters, Jane (husband Kevin) Mahan of Creston and Jodi Mobley of Creston; 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sharon (husband Morry) Baier of Arizona and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Schieffer of Kansas.

Vince was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Delores, one brother, four sisters, and two great-grandchildren, Seth Schieffer and Carissa Schieffer.

Sorry for the loss. I have not seen Vincent in many years .He was my uncle ,lived close to Grandpa and Grandma Schieffer in Carroll, till we moved to Cedar Rapids.
